If you happened to use this printer...guess what?
There are compatible inkjet cartridges for it and while the computer chip has been patented by Canon. Third Party manufacturers are doing everything they can to ensure this popular printer gets the compatible ink it deserve.
But How?
If you recently purchased the genuine ink for this printer. Then you will understand how expensive it is, especially the fact that it uses 5 ink cartridges including CLI-8BK, CLI-8C, CLI-8M, CLI-8Y and PGI-5BK.
That's why you will find that many suppliers nowadays are offering generic alternatives for it....but the only thing is....it doesn't come with the computer chip.
So, how can you use it if the cartridge doesn't come with the chip?
Simple! All you need to do use take the computer chip out of the original cartridge and then clip it into the compatible cartridge. The generic cart should come with the tools and instructions which you can use to take the chip out.
From there on....simply attach it to the compatible cart and make sure it's stable because you don't want the chip to fall out and get inside the printer. It will be wise to use a little bit of sticky tape (which you can easily get from any stationary stores) to hold it firmly.
After this, you can start using the cartridge again!!!
However, please note that from now on...you are no longer able to rely on the ink monitor in the properties menu, because your computer chip is not reset....and the truth is...you just can't reset it. Therefore, your Canon printer will not be able to determine how much ink is left inside.
But this shouldn't stop the printer from functioning properly.....all it will do is automatically disable the ink monitor because you're reusing the chip. So, you will just have to manually determine ink level yourself.
While this may sound a little technical for some people. In reality, it's not and the process is straight forward and simple! Once you get the hang of it, you will be saving heaps of money......let's just say at least 50% whenever you shop for your printer ink again...
Another way to reduce your cost is by using ink refills which in this case you're not require to change the computer chip. All you need to do is refill the ink into the cartridge and you're ready to go!
Happy Printing!
